<description>Capturing beautiful images of newborn babies is one of the most rewarding things I have done in my life. To capture someone at the very start of his or her life is such a privilege. I love working with babies and children as they bring so much delight to each and every day.
The best time to photograph a newborn is when they are 5 – 10 days old, not only because they are small and supple, but also because they are very dozy and easier to settle than an older baby. Small babies are able to curl up on their tummies whilst asleep. I love to use gorgeous hats, for boys and girls, and flowers and tutus for little girls. But keeping the images simple is key. The focus must always remain on the beautiful baby.
Images with the parents and their newborns must reflect the emotional relationship between the parents and new baby. I especially love the newborn baby being placed in the strong and secure hands of their Daddy together with images of the new mother gently kissing her sleeping baby.
My other favourite stage to photograph babies is at the sitting stage. This is usually around 8 months. By this time the baby is responding beautifully to games the parents and baby have discovered over the past months and the child will laugh and give the biggest gummy smiles. It is enough to warm the coldest heart.
Cathy Heaton has become one of South Africa’s leading portrait photographers specialising in pregnancy, baby, toddler and family photography. She also loves doing boudoir shoots and modelling portfolios as she also gets to use her skills as a make-up artist in these shoots.
Many brides give their husbands an album of their boudoir shoot as the Groom’s gift on the day of the wedding or as a first anniversary present ~ as the traditional gift is paper.
“Our first anniversary is coming up and as a gift to my husband I decided I wanted to do a boudoir shoot (first anniversary = paper – photos = paper, get it?). Cathy organised for my hair to get done, she did my make-up and then we spent a good couple of hours doing the photo shoot. I was really quite nervous, because I have never done anything like this, but it turned out so well. I felt really comfortable with Cathy and actually had quite a lot of fun in front of the camera. I got my pics back from Cathy this weekend and they are fantastic!! So classy and beautiful. I don’t know how I am going to choose which to print. Can’t wait to show my husband, I am sure he is going to love them.

<title>Moments by Annalene

I am Annalene, the owner of Moments by Annalene Photography. Travel, cats and photography are the loves of my life! Photography was my hobby and I am lucky enough that it became my profession. I chose to specialise in people photography (portraits, wedding and lifestyle) as I find the human form and range of emotions a fascinating subject.
Everyone hates having their photo taken! It is invasive and usually the results are less than pleasing. With lots of training and experience I have found ways to get past the resistance, find the right angle, and ways to make personality shine through. As I result I cannot be too serious when working with people!
My work consists of weddings and studio work. Weddings are an adventure with costumes, ceremony, expectations and high emotions. As an objective observer I am part of the story from start to end. I love to tell the story of a wedding in photos.
In the studio I photograph kids, babies, families, models and fashion. I built my studio at home, and currently have an array of equipment to make artistic images.

Photographing the bridal couple is by far the most satisfying. Patrick says he does his best work when the couple is relaxed and when they are just being themselves. He then uses his talent to bring out the essence of each couple.
Months are spent dreaming up all the detail for the wedding and it will not pass unnoticed. Patrick makes sure that all the detail is properly recorded and that the couple will always remember what everything looked like even though they might not have seen it all on their wedding day.
Patrick says: “Photography was a hobby that became my life. I realised early on that a wedding consists of two real people that planned their biggest day, and they chose my talent and personality to capture it. At every wedding, I strive to be the best I can, and to produce timeless images that epitimises the couple on their wedding day.”
