VENUE SPOTLIGHT | Set among Ballito’s sugarcane fields just minutes from the coast, @collisheen_estate on the KZN North Coast offers two very different wedding settings on one estate — each with its own atmosphere and scale.

Orchid House is the more intimate of the two. This open-sided venue accommodates up to 120 guests with a dance floor and looks onto gardens that soften the whole space. Its chapel seats 60 guests inside and up to 120 in total with additional seating in the chapel wing, while the option of a garden ceremony gives couples flexibility if they want more greenery around them as they say their vows. There is also a bridal salon on site, and the venue’s gentler scale makes it especially appealing for couples who want the day to feel personal, close, and quietly beautiful.

The Boma offers something very different. Designed for larger celebrations of 100 to 400 guests, this open-sided venue brings together sweeping lawns, indigenous gardens, a private chapel, a water feature, and a bridge that comes alive at night when the lights come on in the trees. The chapel seats 100 guests inside, with room for more around the outside thanks to its open design. For couples planning a bigger wedding, it gives them space to celebrate on a grander scale while still keeping that outdoor, garden-connected feel.

VENUE SPOTLIGHT | Framed by the dramatic peaks of the Drakensberg Mountains, @cathedralpeakhotel offers a wedding setting that feels immediately grand and awe-inspiring.

Set within the uKhahlamba Drakensberg World Heritage Site, this long-established, family-owned hotel gives couples a wedding setting framed by some of the most recognisable peaks in KZN. The scale of the landscape is part of the experience.

Cathedral Peak’s stone-and-thatch chapel set in the hotel gardens and seating up to 120 guests, is a space with real warmth: wooden beams from the original farmhouse, pews made from railway sleepers, and an expansive window behind the pulpit that draws the eye straight to the mountains beyond. It is easy to understand why couples speak about the chapel first. It gives the ceremony a sense of intimacy, while the view behind it gives everything a much bigger scale.

The Umlambonja Room for receptions seats up to 140 guests, while the Mafifiyela Room is better suited to smaller celebrations of up to 50. With accommodation for up to 254 guests, Cathedral Peak is well suited to a weekend wedding, allowing family and friends to stay on-site.
