The new year is here, which means new 2022 wedding trends! After a tough 21 months of lockdown restrictions, engaged couples are looking forward to 2022 with renewed hope and excitement. And in case you hadn’t heard, 2022 looks set to be the biggest year of weddings in recent history! 🥂💍⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Here are some of my wedding trend predictions for 2022:⠀⠀

1.  Big, OTT weddings are back

Big, bold, blowout weddings are going to hit the scene this year. It’s important to note, though, that the intimate micro wedding isn’t going anywhere in a hurry (yay!) but lots of couples have been biding their time and are ready to go big on their wedding day! So expect to see both big and small weddings this year.⠀⠀

2. Bright colours & unexpected pairings

Paired down, neutral shades are an eternal classic but my heart is so, so happy to see that bright colour palettes and unexpected pairings such as mustard yellow and deep pink, or lilac, peach, pink and green have announced themselves as colour trends to look out for! ⠀⠀⠀⠀

This bright yellow wedding dress seen on Wedding Sparrow has all the feels for 2022.

3. Themed / concept weddings

Bridal couples are looking to incorporate a fully integrated theme across all aspects of their special day.  Think Old Hollywood Glamour, elegant celestial themes, Bridgerton style, tropical luau…⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

4. Hanging florals, suspended decor and unusual floral installations

Floral decor is being taken to new heights – literally – with an increased demand for hanging floral installations.  Decor specialists are excited about pushing their creative boundaries with unusual decor and arches being in high demand!⠀⠀⠀

5. Dress

When it comes to dresses, we are going to see more detachable elements like skirts, capes & sleeves (allowing you to have one dress with two looks). This will also be a big year for the puff sleeve – yay, yay, yay! For a more detailed report on wedding dress trends for the upcoming season, check out our blog post from a couple of weeks back – Rock your Frock.

6. Statement lips and headpieces

On the HAMU (Hair & Make-up) front, look out for bold, statement lips OR eyes (pick one feature and really glam it up). Statement headpieces like vintage hairpins, custom crowns and ostentatious veils are going to claim their glory moment in the spotlight.

7. Focus on bespoke and on-the-day stationery

Virtual Save the Dates eliminate the stress and delays associated with snail mail, encourage speedy RSVP’s and save money so you can spend more on your ‘Day Of’ prettiness. Expect to see an increased level of personalisation on all stationery – including bespoke sketches or water colours that tell the couple’s unique love story.

8. Cake and catering trends

On the foodie front, we will see a lot more drip cakes, cakes, metallic shimmer and mini cakes in a variety of flavours. I suspect that plated dining and catered, single-serve dishes will continue to gain momentum as a preferred dining option rather than communal platters.

9. Ecofriendly weddings

The concept of “reuse, recycle and repurpose” has gained traction and now that we know this doesn’t mean drab, ugly or boring, we are seeing more couples adopting a sustainable and eco-friendly approach to weddings (and life in general).⠀⠀⠀
